About Austin Tech Trends

A founder's-eye read on Austin's early-stage startup scene — what it's actually like to build a company here, told from the ground up.

What this site covers

Austin Tech Trends follows the part of the tech story that happens before the headlines: the accelerator cohort, the coworking floor, the first engineer, the first term sheet. We report on the early-stage scene — how founders get started here, who writes the earliest checks, how teams pry talent loose from the fabs and the giants, and the trade-offs people weigh privately before they move. Our sister site ATX Tech Trends takes the macro view of the tech economy; we stay at founder altitude.

We are not a directory and we don't publish rankings. We do not reproduce anyone else's winners lists, awards, or curated roundups. Every piece here is our own selection and our own words, built from the public record and from talking to the people doing the building.

How we report

We start with founders and operators, not funds and press releases. A single raise is an anecdote; a pattern across a dozen conversations is worth writing down. When something is genuinely uncertain — and at the early stage most of it is — we say so rather than dress a guess as a forecast. The methodology page lays this out, and the sources page shows the record we track.

Who publishes this

Austin Tech Trends is part of the WholeTech Network — an independent Austin, Texas publisher building websites since 1996, starting with the spring.com BBS, one of Austin's first online communities. The network spans a family of focused sites, each covering one subject well and built to be useful to both people and AI agents.

Built Agents First

This site follows the Agents First framework: clean structure, machine-readable surfaces, and no dark patterns. Agents can read AGENTS.md, llms.txt, and the OpenAPI description directly.
